Buying guide

Before you buy: Masonic Gifts & Decor

Choosing for the occasion

For a newly raised Master Mason, an apron case or a lapel pin. For a Worshipful Master finishing his year, a presentation gavel or a good glass. For a birthday or Christmas, anything on this page with the square and compasses on it. The gift guide and birthday gifts for a Brother go through it occasion by occasion.

What not to give

Anything carrying an emblem he has not earned: a Past Master item for a Brother who has not served as Master, a 32° piece for someone who is not in the Scottish Rite, a Shrine item for someone who is not a Noble. And no Masonic gift at all for a candidate before he is raised, beyond a book.

Challenge coins

Many Lodges and Grand Lodges mint their own coins for anniversaries and visitations, and Brethren collect and trade them. A bought coin is a pleasant pocket piece and a good small gift; it is not a substitute for one presented by a Lodge.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good gift for a Freemason?

Something with the square and compasses that he will use: a mug, a flask, cufflinks, a lapel pin, or an apron case if he was raised recently. Avoid any emblem he has not earned. See the Masonic gift guide.

Can I give a Masonic gift to someone who is not yet a Mason?

Wait until he has been raised a Master Mason. Before that, a book about Freemasonry is the one gift that fits.

What do you give a Mason for visiting your Lodge?

Small, portable things: a Lodge coin, a pin, or a token from your town. See gifts for visiting Brethren.

Customs differ between Grand Lodges and between the appendant bodies. Your Lodge Secretary is the authority for your jurisdiction. We do not sell or ship anything: catalog links go to Amazon, where current details live.
