One organization conferring a long sequence of degrees, presented largely as theater. The double-headed eagle is its emblem. The 33° is honorary and conferred by invitation, so you cannot buy your way to it, and no vendor sells the right to wear it.

Pike wrote this for Scottish Rite members receiving their degrees; most bodies still distribute it at conferral. Worth owning even if you read it in pieces over years rather than cover to cover.
Pike wrote it for the Southern Jurisdiction in 1871 and it remains the most debated text in Scottish Rite literature. Read it as a philosophical treatise, not as a ritual guide, and note that the NMJ does not use it.
